Code Enforcement

The Williamsburg County Building Codes Department was established in 1999. The department’s coverage area encompasses the unincorporated areas of Williamsburg County.

Mission Statement

To promote a desirable living and working environment, maintain and improve the quality of our community by administering a fair and unbiased enforcement program to correct code violations of County Codes, and land use requirements.

To partner with residents, neighborhood associations, businesses, public agencies and other county departments to:

  • Facilitate voluntary compliance with County laws and codes
  • Develop public outreach programs
  • Establish community priorities
  • Foster civic pride

Building & Codes Enforcement Department Functions

This Office Does

  1. Conduct Residential and Commercial Building Inspections for New Construction
  2. Conduct Residential and Commercial Plan Reviews for Code Compliance
  3. Conduct Commercial Plan Reviews For Sprinkler Systems and Fire Alarms (must be submitted to State Fire Marshal First)
  4. Building Code Interpretation
  5. Flood Plains Management
  6. Fire Marshall Service (County Fire Department)
  7. Manufactured Home Installation Inspections (Manufactured Home Requirements (PDF))
  8. Codes Enforcement for the County Zoning Ordinance

This Office Does Not

  1. Provide Licenses For Contractors (SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR))
  2. Process Complaints Against Contractors (LLR)
  3. Conduct Septic Tank Approval (SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC))
  4. Certify Wind Zone 2 Manufactured Homes (contact the manufacturer of your manufactured home)
  5. Provide Code Book (International Code Council)
